Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard/Enterprise/Datacenter/Web x64 Official ISO Download (RTM Multi-Edition, X15-50360) with Verified SHA-256

If you’re looking for a clean, complete, unmodified official Windows Server 2008 R2 ISO, you’ve come to the right place.

Windows Server 2008 R2, released in 2009, is the server counterpart of Windows 7 — the first Windows Server released only in 64-bit, bringing Hyper-V 2.0, the Active Directory Recycle Bin, IIS 7.5 and PowerShell 2.0. It remains one of the longest-lived and most widely deployed classic Windows server operating systems. This post provides the genuine Simplified Chinese RTM multi-edition media (Standard / Enterprise / Datacenter / Web on one disc), part number X15-50360, complete with a PowerShell-verified SHA-256 hash proving every byte matches Microsoft’s official release.

Release note: this is the original RTM disc (no SP1) — ideal for reproducing the 2009 factory environment or version-evolution labs. If you need Service Pack 1 integrated, use the separate with-SP1 discs from this series, or install SP1 yourself inside an isolated VM.

Setup selects the edition based on your product key. The same disc contains:

EditionBest For
Web Server 2008 R2Dedicated web servers — IIS sites and FTP only, lowest licensing cost
StandardSMB environments, domain controllers, file/print servers — the common entry-level choice
EnterpriseVirtualization hosts, failover clustering (MSCS), larger memory — core business workloads
DatacenterTop tier with unlimited virtualization instances, for large-scale datacenters

All four share the same system binaries; they differ only in licensing and unlocked features — which is why one ISO covered nearly every server deployment scenario of the era.

  • IT professionals and learners — practice AD DS, Group Policy, IIS 7.5, Hyper-V, DNS/DHCP and Certificate Services in a VM
  • Legacy system maintainers — certain industry applications, old ERP systems and early SQL Server/SharePoint deployments are certified specifically against 2008 R2 RTM
  • OS collectors — X15-50360 is an original Microsoft RTM part number with no repackaging
  • Certification students — many classic MCSA/MCSE study guides and lab topologies are built on Windows Server 2008 R2

The following hash was generated locally using PowerShell Get-FileHash on the complete file — not copied from a website. This ensures every byte of your download is identical to the official media:

7C7215A58772D84105B07779F3C86CEA5260164BB05350687C2F59CF49616049

To verify your download, open PowerShell in the folder containing the ISO and run:

Get-FileHash .\cn_windows_server_2008_r2_standard_enterprise_datacenter_web_x64_dvd_x15-50360.iso -Algorithm SHA256

If the output matches the hash above, your file is intact. If it doesn’t, delete the file and download again.

  1. Use a virtual machine: Windows Server 2008 R2 is out of extended support (no security updates since January 2020). Never run it bare-metal or exposed to the public internet. VMware Workstation, VirtualBox or Hyper-V with an immediate post-install snapshot are recommended.
  2. Pick the right edition: for labs, Standard or Enterprise are typical choices. The Web edition can only serve web workloads and cannot be promoted to a domain controller — don’t install it by mistake.
  3. Need SP1? Choose carefully: this is the RTM factory disc. For an SP1 environment use the with-SP1 image, or slipstream/install SP1 inside an isolated VM.
  4. Have a license key ready: editions map to different licenses — use legitimate keys and agreements. You can also skip the key during setup and activate later.
  5. Suggested VM resources: 2GB RAM and a 40GB+ virtual disk. Modern NIC support is limited — Intel PRO/1000 plus Hyper-V Integration Services / VMware Tools offers the best compatibility.
  6. Always verify the hash: a 3GB download can easily be corrupted — two minutes of verification avoids a failed install.

Third-party “lite,” “ghost server” or “pre-activated” builds may:

  • Bundle adware, crypto miners or backdoors
  • Strip server roles, components and the driver store, causing “source files missing” errors when adding features
  • Disable firewalls, updates and security baselines
  • Replace system files with no verifiable hash, making failures impossible to trace or reproduce

Servers carry business data and services — knowing the image is byte-for-byte identical to Microsoft’s official media matters far more than saving a few minutes. An official ISO plus a verifiable SHA-256 hash is the only reliable route.
