Windows Server 2016 Essentials x64 Official ISO Download (Small Business Server, 9327779) with Verified SHA-256
If you’re looking for a clean, complete, unmodified Windows Server 2016 Essentials ISO, you’ve come to the right place.
Windows Server 2016 shipped in 2016 as the server counterpart of Windows 10 (Build 14393), introducing Nano Server, containers (Docker), Storage Spaces Direct, Storage Replica, nested virtualization and Credential Guard. Essentials is its dedicated small-business SKU — simple licensing (one server, up to 25 user accounts and 50 devices), a graphical management dashboard, and wizard-driven domain setup, file sharing, centralized client backup, Remote Web Access and Azure / Office 365 integration. A small company can run it without a full-time administrator. This post provides the genuine Windows Server 2016 Essentials Simplified Chinese disc (part number 9327779), complete with a PowerShell-verified SHA-256 hash proving every byte matches Microsoft’s official release.
This is not Standard Edition: Essentials ships as separate media with separate licensing. Standard/Datacenter keys don’t work. Setup automatically configures the machine as a domain controller in a new forest — it cannot join an existing domain as a member server — and it is capped at 25 users / 50 devices, after which you migrate to Standard. It is a different image from the Standard/Datacenter discs (9718765, 11636695, 11636703); check the file name and number.
A piece of history: Windows Server 2016 Essentials was among the last standalone Essentials SKUs (Microsoft later carried the small-business story forward via the Essentials role on Standard Edition), making this media collectible.
Who Is This Version For?

- Learners and certification students — explore Microsoft’s all-in-one SMB server design and the 2016-era modern management tooling with cloud integration
- OS collectors — genuine 2016-era standalone SKU media (9327779), never repackaged

Verified SHA-256 Hash
The following hash was generated locally using PowerShell Get-FileHash on the complete file — not copied from a website. This ensures every byte of your download is identical to the official media:
96F26F503D5E1FBFDA7FAA095C3DC918ADD4BBFBE8F596C1B9F0A90B50568D8CTo verify your download, open PowerShell in the folder containing the ISO and run:
Get-FileHash .\cn_windows_server_2016_essentials_x64_dvd_9327779.iso -Algorithm SHA256If the output matches the hash above, your file is intact. If it doesn’t, delete the file and download again.

Before You Install
- Try it in a VM first: this is the older RTM build — deploy in Hyper-V, VMware Workstation or VirtualBox, take a snapshot immediately, and apply cumulative updates later inside the isolated environment as needed.
- It builds its own domain controller: Essentials automatically promotes itself to a domain controller with a new forest — it cannot join an existing domain as a member server. Plan your network accordingly.
- Check the licensing scale: 25 users / 50 devices is a hard cap; growth beyond it requires migration to Standard/Datacenter.
- An Essentials-specific key is required: use a legitimate Essentials license — Standard/Datacenter keys do not apply.
- Suggested hardware/VM resources: at least 2 CPU cores, 4GB RAM and an 80GB+ virtual disk. Generation-2 VMs and Secure Boot are well supported.
- Always verify the hash: a 4.5GB download can easily be corrupted — two minutes of verification avoids a failed install.
Why “Official Untouched” Matters
Third-party “lite” or “pre-activated” builds may:
- Bundle adware, crypto miners or backdoors
- Preinstall dubious activation scripts that are themselves security risks
- Strip the Essentials dashboard, backup agents or component store, breaking wizards and client backups
- Replace system files with no verifiable hash, making failures impossible to trace or reproduce
This server holds a company’s accounts and data — knowing the image is byte-for-byte identical to Microsoft’s official media matters far more than saving a few minutes. An official ISO plus a verifiable SHA-256 hash is the only reliable route.
