Windows Server 2019 Essentials x64 Official ISO Download (Small Business Server, 5b386b0b) with Verified SHA-256

If you’re looking for a clean, complete, unmodified Windows Server 2019 Essentials ISO, you’ve come to the right place.

Windows Server 2019 shipped in late 2018 as a Long-Term Servicing Channel release (Build 17763), and Essentials remains its small-business edition: one server, up to 25 user accounts and 50 devices, at a much lower license price than Standard — enough for file, print, directory and cloud-integration services in a small company. This post provides the genuine Windows Server 2019 Essentials Simplified Chinese disc (part number 5b386b0b), complete with a PowerShell-verified SHA-256 hash proving every byte matches Microsoft’s official release.

Important differences from 2016 Essentials: this release no longer includes the Essentials Experience role — the graphical dashboard, centralized Client PC Backup and Remote Web Access (RWA) were removed. Microsoft repositioned the product as “on-premises server plus cloud,” centered on integrating accounts and services with Azure Active Directory and Microsoft 365 via Azure AD Connect. If you depend on the old dashboard and client backups, choose Windows Server 2016 Essentials; if your small business already runs Microsoft 365, 2019 Essentials is the better fit.

The last Essentials ever: starting with Windows Server 2022 Microsoft no longer offers an Essentials SKU, making this media (5b386b0b) the final factory release of the product line — worth keeping and collecting.

  • Small businesses already using Microsoft 365 / Azure AD — an on-premises server for files, printing and traditional business apps, with identities bridged to the cloud via Azure AD Connect
  • Small teams needing one low-cost member server — line-of-business software, file shares and legacy applications, licensed within 25 users
  • IT solution providers — the standard media for “on-premises + cloud” hybrid deliveries to SMB customers
  • Learners and collectors — the final piece in the evolution of Microsoft’s small-business server family (SBS → Essentials)

The following hash was generated locally using PowerShell Get-FileHash on the complete file — not copied from a website. This ensures every byte of your download is identical to the official media:

64CA6ACDAC108A8307F56E1BC16AB066D8B57E6DE6697AA920E414B931D599DE

To verify your download, open PowerShell in the folder containing the ISO and run:

Get-FileHash .\cn_windows_server_2019_essentials_x64_dvd_5b386b0b.iso -Algorithm SHA256

If the output matches the hash above, your file is intact. If it doesn’t, delete the file and download again.

  1. Think twice before upgrading from 2016: 2019 Essentials has no dashboard and no client backup — upgrading directly means losing those features. Validate replacements (Microsoft 365 / OneDrive / Azure Backup) in a VM before migrating.
  2. Prefer virtual machines: for labs and pre-delivery rehearsals use Hyper-V, VMware Workstation or VirtualBox and snapshot immediately. Any internet-facing service needs proper firewalling and patch management (extended support runs to January 2029).
  3. Check the licensing scale: 25 users / 50 devices is a hard cap; growth beyond it means migrating to Standard/Datacenter. Essentials also licenses a single processor only.
  4. An Essentials-specific key is required: use a legitimate 2019 Essentials license — Standard/Datacenter keys do not apply.
  5. Patch baseline: this is RTM-era media — after setup, install cumulative updates via Windows Update / WSUS (for a fresher starting point, the Updated July 2020 refresh is covered in a separate post).
  6. Always verify the hash: a 4.5GB download can easily be corrupted — two minutes of verification avoids a failed install.

Third-party “lite” or “pre-activated” builds may:

  • Bundle adware, crypto miners or backdoors
  • Preinstall dubious activation scripts that are themselves security risks
  • Gut the component store, causing “source files missing” errors when adding roles, installing .NET 3.5 or applying cumulative updates later
  • Replace system files with no verifiable hash, making failures impossible to trace or reproduce

This server holds a company’s accounts and data — knowing the image is byte-for-byte identical to Microsoft’s official media matters far more than saving a few minutes. An official ISO plus a verifiable SHA-256 hash is the only reliable route.

Both Windows Server 2019 editions (Essentials 5b386b0b and Updated July 2020 2c9b67da) are now available. Looking for the Windows Server 2016 family or Windows Server 2022 official ISOs? Leave a comment and we’ll keep adding them with verified hashes.
