Windows 8.1 Core x64 Official ISO Download (Simplified Chinese) with Verified SHA-256

If you’re looking for a clean, unmodified, official Windows 8.1 x64 (64-bit) ISO, you’ve come to the right place.

Windows 8.1, released by Microsoft in October 2013, was a major refinement of Windows 8 — it brought back the Start button, improved the tile interface, shipped with IE11, and added better high-DPI support. Although it reached end of support in January 2023, it remains relevant for legacy machines, specific industry software, retro experiences, and VM testing.

Unfortunately, most Windows 8.1 images circulating online are repackaged bundles loaded with adware, hijacked homepages, and stripped components. This post provides the official Windows 8.1 Core x64 ISO in Simplified Chinese (MSDN release #2707237), verified locally via PowerShell Get-FileHash. The SHA-256 hash matches Microsoft’s original MSDN release byte-for-byte.

Windows 8.1 Core x64 is the consumer retail edition:

  • x64 (64-bit) architecture: Supports more than 4 GB of RAM and runs 64-bit applications
  • Retail activation: Activated with a retail key, online or by phone
  • Simplified Chinese: Native Chinese UI, no language pack needed
  • The Start button returns: Friendlier than Windows 8, balancing touch and mouse/keyboard

Note that the Core edition lacks the following features compared to Pro:

Missing FeatureDetails
Domain JoinCannot join corporate domains
Hyper-VNo built-in virtualization
BitLockerNo disk encryption
Remote Desktop HostCan connect to others, but cannot be connected to
Advanced Group PolicySome gpedit features restricted

For everyday home use, mainstream software, or a retro experience, the Core edition is sufficient. For domain join or Hyper-V, choose Pro or Enterprise instead.

The following hash was generated locally using PowerShell Get-FileHash on the complete file — not copied from a website. This ensures every byte of your download is identical to the official Microsoft release:

To verify your download, open PowerShell in the folder containing the ISO and run:

Get-FileHash .\cn_windows_8_1_x64_dvd_2707237.iso -Algorithm SHA256

If the output matches the hash above, your file is intact. If it doesn’t, delete the file and download again.

  1. Always verify the hash: File corruption during download is more common than you think. Two minutes of verification saves hours of troubleshooting.
  2. Back up your data: Move documents, desktop files, and browser bookmarks to another drive before reinstalling.
  3. Create install media: Use Rufus or Ventoy to write the ISO to a USB stick — both are free and straightforward.
  4. Activation: The retail edition activates with a retail key, online or by phone.
  5. Hardware requirements: x64 requires a CPU with 64-bit support (virtually all CPUs since 2007 qualify); 4 GB or more of RAM is recommended for a smooth experience.
  6. About Update 1: This image is the initial 8.1 release. Microsoft later shipped the important Update 1 (KB2919355) — after installation, catch up via Windows Update, or use the Windows 8.1 With Update integrated image available on this site.
  7. Network safety: Windows 8.1 reached end of security updates in January 2023 — avoid exposing it to the public internet for sensitive tasks.

Many third-party “lite” and “optimized” Windows 8.1 repacks claim to be clean, but they often:

  • Install adware or even plant malware
  • Disable Windows Update, creating security holes
  • Hijack browser homepages and search engines
  • Strip critical components (.NET Framework, IE components) that break later software installs

For legacy machines and industry terminals where reinstalls are rare and costly, the hidden cost of these issues far outweighs the few minutes saved during setup. Official ISO + your own activation is always the safest route.
