Windows NT 4.0 Server Simplified Chinese Official ISO Download (Classic Server OS) with Verified SHA-256
If you’re looking for a clean, complete, unmodified original Windows NT 4.0 Server ISO, you’ve come to the right place.
Windows NT 4.0 Server is Microsoft’s classic server operating system released in 1996 — the direct predecessor of Windows 2000 Server. Built on the mature NT kernel, it was the first server release to bring the Windows 95-style graphical interface to Microsoft’s enterprise product line, shipping with IIS, domain controller functionality and the NTFS file system. For many people it was their first taste of “Windows as a server.” Images circulating online today have often been repackaged, so this post provides the genuine Windows NT Server 4.0 Simplified Chinese installation media, complete with a PowerShell-verified SHA-256 hash proving every byte matches the original image.
Who Is This Version For?
Windows NT 4.0 Server is ideal for:
- Retro computing and OS archaeology fans — experience enterprise Windows of the late 1990s, from the classic blue desktop to Program Manager
- IT and networking learners — study early Windows domains, User Manager, NTFS permissions and IIS 2.0/4.0 to understand the foundations of modern Windows Server
- Legacy system maintainers — certain old industrial control software, legacy ERP systems and SQL Server 6.5/7.0-era database applications only run properly on NT 4.0
- Virtual machine experimenters — recreate a “1990s server room” in an isolated lab
This is Windows NT Server 4.0 (the server edition), 32-bit x86, internal Build 1381, original Simplified Chinese media.

Verified SHA-256 Hash
The following hash was generated locally using PowerShell Get-FileHash on the complete file — not copied from a website. This ensures every byte of your download is identical to the original image:
27B35D30C3E506868F40A020009FD72CF0E539237BE5920C538CC7E13590C82ETo verify your download, open PowerShell in the folder containing the ISO and run:
Get-FileHash .\sc_winnt_4.0_svr.iso -Algorithm SHA256If the output matches the hash above, your file is intact. If it doesn’t, delete the file and download again.

Before You Install
- Use a virtual machine: Windows NT 4.0 has been completely out of support since late 2004 with no modern security patches. Never install it on physical hardware or expose it directly to the internet. VMware Workstation or VirtualBox work well; for the most authentic experience try 86Box or PCem.
- Period-correct hardware only: NT 4.0 natively supports IDE disks, PS/2 mice and old network adapters — no SATA/AHCI, USB or modern GPUs. In your VM choose an IDE controller, an AMD PCnet or Intel PRO/1000 NIC, and allocate just 256–512MB of RAM (too much memory can actually cause issues).
- Always verify the hash: after decades of re-sharing, corrupted images are common. Two minutes of verification saves troubleshooting later.
- Have a product key ready: the original media requires a valid product key during setup — please use a legitimate license you own.
- Apply SP6a afterwards: Service Pack 6a is the final service pack for NT 4.0 — install it inside your isolated VM. The whole OS occupies only a few hundred megabytes of disk.
Why an “Original Image” Matters
Third-party repackaged legacy builds often come with hidden trade-offs:
- Bundled adware or background programs of unknown origin
- Replaced system files and modified IE or drivers
- No verifiable hash, making the source untraceable
- Broken compatibility, so the legacy software you need no longer runs correctly
For retro collection and legacy system maintenance, knowing that an image is byte-for-byte identical to the original media is the whole point. An original ISO plus a verifiable SHA-256 hash is the only reliable route.
